Autorun a Power Point presentation
With CDFrontEnd you can autorun autoplay PowerPoint PPS files, as well as infinite other files.
Basically there are 2 ways.
SIMPLE WAY
PROFESSIONAL VERSATILE WAY
Below the step by step instructions for creating an autorun CD with a single PPS file (we suppose its name is "mydocument.pps":
a) create a new temporary folder with the MSWindows
File Explorer (File >New >Folder), say c:\MyTemp
Then, from the Internet (Microsoft.com Web site, search for "PowerPoint Viewer download", now when we are writing the dowload page is available with a
click here), or from a Magazine, or from the CDFrontEnd CD you bought from VisualVision, get the PowerPoint Viewer self extracting file (the one provided with CDFrontEnd is PPView97.exe - it is fine for PowerPoint 97, 2000 and 2002 files)
b) install the CDFrontEnd program (!)
c) run CDFrontEnd. In the first page, insert this text (you can replace it with two wonderful images):
- click here to start the Wonderful presentation
- click here to install the PowerPoint Viewer (if you don't have it yet)
Select the first text block and use "Insert >Link to external file" (if a picture, use the right mouse button, "Define link", 3rd tab), "Add" button, and write "run:data\mydocument.pps".
Repeat the process for the second block, and write "run:data\PPView97.exe".
d) should you want the full screen without any top menu, check the relevant check box in "Hypertext >Current Hypertext Properties" ("Reader screen") tab;
e) Use "File >Create autorun CD in temporary folder...". You will be prompted for a temporary folder that will contain the copy of the CD. Choose the c:\MyTemp you created in step a).
The program will show a dialog like this:
You may choose "Browse..." to take a look at the temporary copy of the CD:
And you may also the use "Test" button to test the CD prior to the actual burning: but please understand that the link to the PPS file will NOT work in test mode.
f) Open EasyCD (or Nero, or WinOnCD) and make sure you burn all the files from the temporary folder into the root of a CD, and the files "PPView97.exe" and "mydocument.pps" in the folder "data" of the CD.
The CD will contain the files:
autorun.ico
autorun.inf
brochure.aeh
CDFE_e.exe
readme.txt
data\PPView97.exe
data\mydocument.pps
g) Close all programs, insert the CD in the drive, and enjoy!!
Important: if you have PowerPoint, you might find on your Hard Disk the file ppview.exe or ppview32.exe. This is NOT the auto install viewer file for the PowerPoint Viewer. This is just the stand alone viewer and can't work with the example above. Please see the microsoft.com Web site to download the SelfInstalling Setup File for the PowerPoint Viewer.
That’s all. It’s really a snap!!!
IMPORTANT: Please notice that the
run: links won’t work within the editor and/or in test mode - you should actually burn a CD (maybe a CDRW; or use a USB key drive) and you should place the external files correctly, e.g. if you use
run:nicfolder\file.abc, then the file
file.abc should actually be present within the folder
nicfolder of the CD (this means that with Nero, EasyCD, WinOnCD or whatever, you should burn on the CD both the CDFrontEnd files and the external files to which you are linking).
